Why a container build vs a traditional build?
Cost Effective: Container projects are typically significantly cheaper than traditional builds. The construction process requires less material and less labor which equals a more simple and efficient process.
Durable: All Cameron Custom Containers are bought new and verified the container was built and inspected to the appropriate ISO standards. Shipping containers are made to haul 20-30 tons around the world and to be stacked 9 containers high. They can withstand extreme weather conditions that tradition builds can’t.
Sustainability: Shipping container builds are a great eco-friendly option, recycling thousands of pounds of steel that would eventually go to waste. Over half a million shipping containers are abandoned each year.
Fast Construction: Cameron Custom Containers can be built in weeks to a couple months, compared to traditional homes which can take up to a year or more. You can get even faster with our ‘ready to ship’ containers that are already completed and can be shipped out within a week of purchase.
Customizability: Container builds can be customized to fit your exact needs and style preferences. You can completely customize your container project from start to finish, or you can pick one of our models and make your own small changes along the way.
Typical Time Frame
If you purchase one of our standard models, it typically takes 6-16 weeks from the first deposit and when we start designing to the time its sitting on your lot. There are several variables that can make your build shorter or longer, such as the number of orders we are currently working on, any delays sourcing our materials, and zoning or permitting. Complete custom builds are typically on the longer end depending on the complexity and size of the project. Our team values the quality of our builds over pushing them out on an assembly line like a Ford Factory.
Other General FAQs
Yes. Once you have selected your floorplans, went over any changes or upgrades you would like to add, we require a 50% deposit before construction begins.

What kind of foundations are recommended?
Concrete Slab
A concrete slab is our favorite recommendation. This eliminates any rodents being able to crawl under your container, keeps water from washing out the ground underneath and around your concrete piers or block.
Concrete Piers
Concrete piers is our other recommendation. Piers are the most economical route, and they give you flexibility to lift the container off the ground, and they give you flexibility to pour each pier at different heights giving you the opportunity to sit the container evenly on the piers on a hillside or uneven ground.
What about codes and zoning?
Codes and zoning will vary on what state, county, township, or city the container will be located in. We highly recommend talking to your local building/zoning department and are happy to send them any build plans or additional information to make this an easy process for all parties involved. The more rural your location is, the easier and quicker this process tends to be. Our custom builds give you the freedom to customize every single detail that goes into the container from day 1 until it arrives at your property. You can design your project to maximize the views and the features of your property. Single container builds to stacked or adjoined containers, you dream it, we build it. These projects will be significantly longer and more expensive depending on the complexity and size of the build.
Our standard models are our favorite and most popular models. We have put a lot of thought process and research into each model and wanted to give our customers a wide variety to choose from. It is also the quickest and most affordable way to get a Cameron Custom Container build.
All our containers are sprayed with 2LB closed-cell spray foam. Every single wall, the ceiling, and even underneath the container is sprayed with at least 2&Prime r14 value of closed-cell spray foam. We are from Ohio, so we have to prepare for the 95-degree heat in the summer and the single digit temperatures in the winter.
Our shell models are our unfinished containers perfect for a DIY project. Our base shell package includes the one-trip container, cut outs & reinforcements for windows/doors, and exterior paint. Our deluxe shell package includes the same as our base package but also will include window/door installations, interior framing, rough-electrical, and rough-plumbing.
